Life can be challenging for all of us, no matter who we are or where we come from. In therapy, I strive to provide a safe, respectful, inclusive, and nurturing space that can help you to grow and heal.

For BIPOC and/or immigrant patients, my practice offers you a deep understanding and empathy of cross-cultural and immigration challenges. My own lived experience as an immigrant woman of color, combined with my training in medicine and psychology, provides you with holistic care that takes into account mind, body, spirit, and environment.

Hi, I’m Fatima Noorani, MD, a psychotherapist and psychiatrist supporting adults in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia in their journey to a more balanced, fulfilling, and meaningful life.

Seeking out help can be difficult given the biases, stigma, and barriers surrounding mental health care.

I’m here to support you in your wellbeing and healing in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

My approach and style

I have a warm, empathic, thoughtful approach with appreciation and respect for diversity in all aspects of life.

I provide care that is evidence-based with an integrative, personalized, and unrushed approach. I consider it a privilege to be a part of this journey with you.

I’m trained in various modalities of long- and short-term therapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Insight-Oriented Psychotherapy, Resilience-based Psychotherapy, and Mindfulness practices.

The type of therapy that works best for you will depend on many factors, and we can discuss this more when we meet.

FAQ

  • Both. I prefer that we meet in-person in my McLean, VA office for our first session. After that we can decide together what works best for treatment.

  • Before our first visit, you will receive forms to complete, sign and send back via patient portal. Our first 1-3 sessions are consultation appointments, part of the Initial Psychiatric Evaluation. During this period, we will collaborate to gather information to decide if you need treatment, and what type.

By the end of the initial assessment period, we will determine if we would like to continue working together. If so, I will become your therapist and/or treating psychiatrist. If at any point during treatment, we determine that you would be better served by receiving treatment from a different provider, this will be discussed and referrals will be provided.

  • The length of time of treatment is variable depending on what we are working on and how you are doing or feeling. For psychotherapy, meeting weekly for at least 15-20 sessions or 6 months is recommended as that time frame is most likely needed to produce growth and change.

  • Fees vary based on type of service and length of appointment.

Initial Psychiatric Evaluation, Session 1, 90 minutes: $450

    Therapy only, 45 minutes: $250

Therapy with Medication Management, 45 min: $250

Medication Management only, 25 minutes: $200

  • Yes. I am an in-network provider with Carefirst BCBS (all plans) and Anthem BCBS (PPO plans only) ONLY. I do not work with any other insurance carrier. For more information about using your insurance for my services, please refer to the Financial Policy.

If you have any other insurance plan, I would be considered an out-of-network provider and unable to file claims directly with insurance. You are encouraged to submit reimbursement claims to your insurance and utilize any out-of-network benefits.

You will be provided with a specialized invoice that contains all information necessary to submit claims for out-of-network reimbursement.

  • You have a right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Please refer to the Good Faith Estimate Policy for further information.

  • Yes, there are times where medications are necessary. Before we consider starting a medication in treatment, we will first ensure that other potential non-medication strategies are considered. Prior to starting, I will discuss the risks and benefits of the medication so that you can make an informed decision.

Though I will recommend the approach best supported by scientific data, choice of treatment modality is a personal decision. Implementing any treatment must be adapted carefully to meet the specific needs of the person seeking treatment.

  • There may be times when medications alone can be helpful, but the vast majority of the time, combination care (medication and therapy) shows the best results.
